Fish being a healthy food, then Mackerel must be one of the healthiest as its
content of healthy unsaturated fish oil is higher than most white fish. This
not only improves its flavour but also gives mackerel a higher energy value.
The oil contains greater concentrations of vitamins A and D - the latter being
vital for healthy bones and teeth. Perhaps the strongest health arguments for
Mackerel comes from studies in both the UK and Germany. They have concluded
that Mackerel fillets have a most beneficial effect on the blood system, reducing
high blood pressure and improving resistance to heart complaints.
